Crisis in Filling IT Jobs

The downturn In the Irish economy has hit many sectors hard in particular the retail and construction sectors. While many areas of the Irish economy are declining or remaining stagnant the IT sector is roaring ahead.

Many of the leading IT companies operating In Ireland Such as Oracle, Microsoft and IBM are struggling to find skilled personnel from the Irish Labour market. Last year alone almost 1,000 IT workers were recruited from outside Ireland and this figure does  not include those recruited from inside the EU.

Despite the rapid economic decline over the past few years job vacancies in The Information and Communication Industry actually increased from 65,500 in June 2005 to 74,900 in June 2011. (Source CSO)

There are a wide range of courses that people can take to improve their IT skills and potentially gain an entry level position in an ICT company. One such course is the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). This course will provide participants with a Cisco certified certificate and upon successful completion, there are various options for further education.
