Irish Games Industry to Create 2,500 Jobs

In some positive news,  the government announced earlier this year a plan to create even more jobs within the gaming sector. As part of a new incentive, the government have introduced a 'games strategy action plan' developed by Forfás which plans to increase employment from 2,500 to 5,000 between 2014 - 2016 while working closely with enterprise development agencies.

The explosion of the social media era coupled with increased online activity has been the catalyst for these opportunities and the IDA reports their ambition as - "by 2015 Ireland's games sector will be recognised internationally as: A dynamic and internationally connected hub of innovative games development and advanced game servicing harnessing creative talent, technological prowess and a unique ability to understand the customer, to deliver sustained growth within the most progressive and digitally advanced business environment". In essence: "A Global Games Hub for the 21st Century”.

Although many job sectors have taken a massive hit over the past few years, the games industry looks to have a bright future and also an exciting option for anyone looking to cross over into a new career within IT / Game Design. For beginners with an interest in game design and development, there are now plenty of learning opportunities to develop these skills at post, and undergraduate level and more information can be found at www.dorset-college.ie
